Position: Chief Medical Officer Location: Remote, United Kingdom Engagement: Part-Time Advisory Board in Exchange for Stock Options About Fruit Street Health Fruit Street Health is a trailblazer in the telehealth space, leveraging innovative technology to address one of the most urgent health crises in America: Type 2 diabetes. As a CDC-recognized provider of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP), our mission is to empower individuals to take control of their health, make sustainable lifestyle changes, and ultimately prevent Type 2 diabetes. Founded on the belief that prevention is better than cure, we combine live group sessions led by registered dietitians with cutting-edge health tracking tools, ensuring participants receive a holistic, personalized, and effective experience. With over 45,000 participants served, Fruit Street Health is redefining how diabetes prevention is delivered, making it accessible, scalable, and impactful The statistics surrounding diabetes and prediabetes are staggering: 1 in 3 adults in the U.S.—96 million people—have prediabetes, but 8 out of 10 don’t even know they have it. Without intervention, up to 70% of individuals with prediabetes will develop Type 2 diabetes, a chronic condition with life-altering complications. Complications include heart disease, stroke, blindness, amputations, and premature death. The financial burden is immense, with healthcare costs increasing by $9,600 annually per patient. Despite these alarming facts, traditional methods of diabetes prevention often fail to reach those who need them most. In-person programs can be inaccessible, and many individuals are unaware of the resources available to them. Fruit Street Health is changing that narrative by providing a telehealth-based solution that meets participants where they are. Fruit Street Health delivers the National Diabetes Prevention Program through a dynamic telehealth model that is both effective and accessible. Our approach combines the proven strategies of lifestyle intervention with the convenience and scalability of virtual healthcare. Our diabetes prevention program includes the following: 12-Month Curriculum: Participants engage in 22 live, interactive sessions over Zoom, led by registered dietitians. These sessions cover critical topics such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, and emotional well-being. Group Support: Participants join small groups of up to 30 individuals, fostering a sense of community and mutual accountability. Health Tracking Tools: Each participant receives a Fitbit and wireless scale, which integrate with the Fruit Street app to track physical activity, weight loss, and other key metrics. Personalized Feedback: Participants can text their dietitian for tailored advice and upload meal photos for dietary feedback. Tailored Meal Delivery: Through our partnership with Modify Health, participants can access medically tailored meals delivered to their homes. Accessibility: Our program is fully reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid, and many commercial health plans, making it affordable for participants from diverse backgrounds. The program’s results speak for themselves, with participants reducing their risk of Type 2 diabetes by up to 71% in adults aged 60 and older and by 58% in the general population. Impact to Date Lives Changed: Over 45,000 participants have engaged in our program, achieving significant health improvements, including lower A1C levels, weight loss, and improved overall well-being. Revenue Growth: We’ve generated $7 million in revenue through reimbursable telehealth services, demonstrating the program’s scalability and financial viability. Participant Testimonials: Success stories include participants losing significant weight, reversing prediabetes, and regaining control of their health. The telehealth revolution is here, and Fruit Street Health is at the forefront. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of virtual healthcare, creating a $475 billion global market opportunity. Medicare and Medicaid are now reimbursing telehealth-based diabetes prevention programs, removing barriers to accessibility and affordability. The prevalence of obesity and diabetes continues to rise, with 96 million Americans currently living with prediabetes. The need for innovative, scalable prevention solutions has never been greater, and Fruit Street Health is uniquely positioned to lead the charge.
