Are you a visionary financial leader with a passion for driving excellence? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Kings in a pivotal role as the Deputy Chief Finance Officer (Strategy and Improvement).
This role will support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Executive Team in developing and delivering the Trust’s strategy and in improving the Trust’s financial efficiency and performance. Responsibilities include corporate oversight of the Financial Strategy & Planning team, which encompasses financial strategy and planning, continuous improvement, investments, capital, and oversight of the cost improvement programme.
The post holder will provide day-to-day leadership to the finance team and will be responsible to the CFO for delivering required financial support, challenge, and analysis. They will present financial and business information to large groups, including clinical and non-clinical colleagues. The post holder will work closely with the CFO to enhance the financial performance and literacy of the Trust.
Additionally, the post holder will deputize for the CFO in all finance-related matters and lead several Trust-wide programmes to deliver benefits across the group.
Main duties of the job
Director of Financial Planning and Performance
- Responsible for developing the Trust’s financial strategy and plan, and for financial oversight of the Trust’s investments and cost improvement programme.
- Lead efforts for continuous financial improvement, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the hospital complies with the Trust’s financial standards of reporting, control, and conduct.
- Work with other directors to develop strategic partnerships with key stakeholders and commissioners.
- Deputize for the Chief Finance Officer.

The post holder will play a key role in developing and delivering the Trust’s strategic objectives. They will also:
- Lead the development of the Trust’s financial strategy.
- Propose and develop changes to Trust policy.
- Apply rigorous commercial disciplines in assessing investment proposals.
- Ensure financial support for efficiency savings and productivity plans.
- Support the development and delivery of the Trust’s capital programme.
- Contribute to the broader strategic direction and corporate management of the hospital.
- Advise on finance issues and financial risks related to strategic options.
Person specification
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level
- Expert knowledge of financial and accounting procedures
- CCAB fully qualified / Professional chartered accountancy qualification
- Evidence of recent CPD including training and experience in NHS finance
Experience
- Post-qualification experience as a Director of Finance or Deputy CFO
- Experience across the healthcare sector
- Experience of the NHS planning process and Payment by Results
- Experience in financial turnaround situations
- Experience in restructuring and outsourcing back-office services
Skills
- Sound political judgment and understanding of complex policy
- Highly developed influencing skills with senior healthcare professionals
- Experience in understanding complex transactions or commercial arrangements
- Evidence of leading significant change programmes within finance
