Course Leader Construction (Brickwork and Plastering)
Construction
Salary: £38,841 to £44,993 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent Full time 37 hours per week
Reference: REC2077 | Closing Date: Sunday, 5th January 2025
The opportunity
Based at our state-of-the-art CUBE Construction facility, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and manage the delivery of dynamic courses within our Construction department. Your role will focus on delivering high-quality teaching and creating a learning environment that helps students achieve their qualifications and prepares them for successful careers or further education. You’ll also play a pivotal part in shaping the curriculum to reflect the latest industry trends and standards.
You will also have line management responsibilities for team members who are closely involved with the courses you lead. This typically includes Lecturers, Instructors, Teachers, and support staff who play a vital role in delivering these courses. Your Head of Department will work with you to outline your management responsibilities, provide guidance, and ensure you receive the necessary training and support.
In addition to line management, you’ll deliver engaging, hands-on teaching sessions in Brickwork and Plastering, covering a variety of topics across Levels 1 to 3. Using your expertise, you’ll design detailed lesson plans, schemes of work, and learning resources tailored to the needs of your students. Providing clear, constructive feedback on their work will support their academic growth, and you’ll foster a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment that adheres to health and safety regulations.
As Course Leader, you’ll also take ownership of your programmes, ensuring they meet the highest quality standards and exceed learner expectations. You’ll monitor student progress closely, introducing tailored support plans where needed to help everyone reach their potential. By collaborating with colleagues across the department, you’ll ensure a consistent, coordinated approach to delivering the curriculum. You’ll also manage compliance with awarding body requirements, maintaining accurate records of assessments, attendance, and student achievements.
You’ll have strong curriculum development skills, where you’ll refresh and refine course content to align with industry needs and employer expectations. You’ll explore opportunities to integrate modern construction techniques, sustainable practices, and the latest technologies into your teaching. Building strong relationships with local employers will also allow you to provide valuable work experience opportunities, helping students bridge the gap between learning and industry.
A key part of your role will be contributing to quality assurance processes, including observations, audits, and self-assessments, to ensure continuous improvement across the department. You’ll participate in regular standardisation and moderation activities to maintain consistent teaching practices. Beyond the classroom, you’ll act as a mentor and guide, providing academic and career support to students and encouraging positive behaviour, attendance, and engagement.
At Barnsley College, professional growth and teamwork go hand in hand. You’ll be supported in your ongoing professional development to keep your skills and industry knowledge up to date. Through active involvement in departmental meetings, staff training, and college initiatives, you’ll collaborate with colleagues to share ideas and enhance the overall teaching and learning experience.
This is your chance to inspire the next generation of construction professionals while working in a forward-thinking, supportive environment. If you’re passionate about education, committed to student success, and ready to make an impact, we’d love to hear from you!
