The Economics team is responsible for producing a global forecast and an economic story to support that view. They communicate this directly to clients, and provide it to BUs as an important input to their micro analysis of commodity markets. The team also contributes to our understanding of how decarbonisation and climate change will shape the global economy and commodity sectors. We are looking to recruit an Economist to analyse and forecast North America, with a particular focus on the US, and to help develop CRU’s understanding of decarbonisation policy and how it overlaps with wider economic policy. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities You will lead our analysis of the US, Canadian and Mexican economies, with primary focus on the US. This will involve shaping our forecast judgements, communicating your view to clients, prospects and colleagues throughout CRU, and closely monitoring data and economic developments. You will produce monthly forecasts for the region you cover, using the Oxford Economics Global Macro Model and your own knowledge and judgement. You will bring out the key implications of our economic view for metals markets, presenting this information in a way that maximises value for clients. In the process, you will build expertise in these markets, absorbing knowledge from clients and colleagues in CRU. For example, previous postholders have written Insights on the construction sector, decarbonisation policy and prospects for the US dollar. You will also use your data and analysis skills to support the rest of the team as required – e.g. on data collection, preparing charts and presentations and improving spreadsheets.
