We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Wastewater Manger to lead, develop and manage United Utilities strategic direction for environmentally related activities across our Wastewater business. You will be developing strategies that support excellent service, add value and support long-term stewardship for the environment and assets that proudly serve the 7 million people and 200,000 businesses in the North West England. You will be supporting delivery of the AMP7 programme and integrating strategies into wider Wholesale plans including the DWMP and the PR24 business plan submission. You will need to be a subject matter expert on relevant wastewater promises, outcomes and performance commitments.
You will be responsible for the development, maintenance, communication and embedment of environmental strategies, be the subject matter expert on relevant wastewater promises, outcomes and performance commitments and the line owner for regulatory reporting. You will also be responsible for:
- Defining the regional 5-year plan for wastewater process base maintenance programme and translate this into county-level plans.
- Dynamic modification of strategies and plans where needed to meet business targets.
- Undertake specific projects or initiatives as directed by the Head of Planning and Performance.
- Track and monitor the regional add up of performance to actively embed strategic targets.
- Work alongside Asset Management to ensure in-year and in-AMP performance align to long-term plans.
- Effective completion of horizon scanning within the function, accountable for the development of the lowest whole life cost response to the trigger.
- Development of Price Review content. Includes chapter content, data tables, designing performance commitments and preparing cost adjustment claims.
- Identification of research and development and to represent United Utilities on UKWIR projects to influence industry research.
- Technical input into position statement and policy production.
- Externally representing United Utilities at national meetings on environmentally related issues.
- Technical lead for activities supporting Operations and appropriate external partners.
To be successful in this role you will need a degree or post graduate qualification in a science or environmental discipline or have significant relevant experience in operational management of the wastewater system. You will also need:
- Wide experience and a good knowledge of relevant business practices, techniques and policies.
- Knowledge and experience of wastewater activities, design, construction, operation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of business finance procedures.
- Thorough understanding of the impact of wastewater activities on our customers and key stakeholders.
- The ability to demonstrate strategic thinking at all levels of the business.
- Excellent analytical reasoning, project management skills, negotiating skills, influencing skills, financial skills.
- The ability to maintain knowledge and skills and develop yourself within the role.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills
