Senior or Principal Flood Risk Engineer Salary: £45,000 - £55,000, depending on experience This Senior or Principal Flood Risk Engineer position in Central London presents a unique opportunity for an experienced engineer with a background in flood risk assessments and drainage strategies. The role is within a large international consultancy and will allow you to work on a variety of complex projects across the UK. These include estate regeneration, mixed-use urban developments, and infrastructure schemes where flood risk is a critical component. Key Responsibilities: Flood Risk Assessments (FRA): You will be responsible for authoring FRAs for both private and public sector projects. These assessments are critical for development planning and flood risk management. Sustainable Drainage Strategies: Develop conceptual surface water drainage strategies incorporating Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), ensuring compliance with planning regulations and policies like the NPPF (Planning Policy Framework). Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the consultancy in meetings with clients, design teams, and authorities to discuss constraints, opportunities, and solutions related to flood risk and drainage issues. Technical Proficiency: Produce and review FRAs and drainage strategies using tools like MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, and support hydrological and hydraulic modelling using software such as Tuflow, Flood Modeller, and FEH (Flood Estimation Handbook). Project Management: You will have a key role in managing projects, including financial control, ensuring delivery on time and within budget. Mentoring and Reporting: Mentor junior staff and ensure that all reports and documentation are clear, concise, and meet industry standards. Requirements: Experience: At least 4 years of experience in flood risk management, with a proven track record in the delivery of FRAs and drainage strategies. Technical Skills: Proficiency in MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage and a solid understanding of hydraulic and hydrological modelling principles. Knowledge of Planning Systems: In-depth knowledge of the UK planning system, including policies like the NPPF and the SuDS Manual. Communication and Management: Strong communication skills, both in client-facing and team management settings.
