My client is looking for an industry-leading transport planner with the domain knowledge and technical expertise needed to lead their established Sustainable Development Team. They seek someone who will inspire and lead their existing Sustainable Development team members through the next phase of an ongoing transition. They will guide and support the team's increasing application of established knowledge and skills to a wider range of development types that focus on achieving more sustainable spatial development and mobility outcomes.
The right candidate will take line management and growth responsibility for the current team of 11 people, along with the autonomy to lead all aspects of their growth; spanning business development, recruitment, project delivery, and client liaison. In turn, they will take Profit and Loss responsibility for the Sustainable Development Team's performance, and sit on the Group's Leadership Team alongside three established Team Leaders, the Advisory Group Director and Operations Director. As such they will help the Leadership Team to shape and deliver the future growth strategy, deepen integration and share responsibility for collectively achieving environmental and commercial objectives.
This individual will share the companies energy for:
·Helping clients to plan, design and deliver active and sustainable new communities where walking, cycling and public transport mobility outcomes are prioritised.
·Vision-led transport planning and placemaking principles; allying them to sound understanding of development planning/built environment transport planning techniques.
·Understanding and applying transport modelling principles in a way that proportionately balances forecast future travel patterns and trip numbers with real-world awareness of the individual, and collective, user needs that drive travel demand.
·Providing assured and experienced transport planning input to planning applications, guided by detailed knowledge of spatial planning legislation and sustainable development practices.
·Working with clients and design teams (Architects, Planners, Urban Designers, Landscape Architects, Environmental specialists, and other disciplines) to provide transport, access, and movement inputs to first imagine and then secure the planning consents needed to deliver places where they would be proud to live.
The ideal candidate will:
·Hold a strong technical underpinning of Development Planning related transport planning skills, spanning: site and junction capacity assessment, Design Team input and co-design, accessibility and connectivity analysis, developing core access and movement principles, preparing Transport Statements/Assessments and Travel Plans, advising on Section 106 agreements, preparing Construction Transport Management Plans, and overseeing post-consent activities.
·Bring a track-record of public and private sector Placemaking project work to the team - ideally through working on developments at a scale that enables more sustainable place and mobility outcomes to be achieved.
·Maintain relationships with existing public and private sector clients; additionally identifying and realising new opportunities for generating project work from clients who share their interest in placemaking and sustainable development outcomes.
·Manage sizeable projects to scope and budget across a number of sectors (primarily: Care, Education, Health, Leisure, Warehousing/Distribution, and Residential), with particular emphasis on larger mixed-used developments.
·Bring the professional experience and credibility required to add value to the Leadership Team.
·Have demonstrable experience of managing, inspiring and developing teams of consultancy staff; whilst supporting them on their career journeys.
·Hold a Chartered Engineer / TPP (or similar) professional qualification.
