Lighting Project Engineer - Covent Garden Fixed term contract for 2 years - available from January 2025 Competitive salary based on skills and experience Based in: Covent Garden, London Full time; 40 hours per week including overnight work The Royal Ballet and Opera continues to lead the way in opera, ballet, music and dance both live on stage and through multiple digital platforms, from live streaming to worldwide cinema screenings. Our Covent Garden theatre has been at the heart of London and British cultural life for three centuries. We are home to two world-class Companies: The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera. We are in the midst of a major programme of work which will bring together a range of energy and sustainability initiatives, infrastructure replacement works, and individual projects which will help to transform the working environment across our estate. Like much of the RBO estate, the technical estate was installed in 1999 and is now reaching the end of its life or has been superseded by technological advancements. Two major lighting projects are currently underway. The first is the upgrade and replacement of the main Auditorium, house and emergency lighting systems. The second is the upgrade and replacement of the stage lighting fixtures and associated infrastructure. Both projects require working closely with operational colleagues to deliver projects around a demanding schedule without interruption to performances. Reporting to the Lighting Project Manager, this role will provide both project management and technical expertise. Managing a range of 3rd party contractors on the delivery of the upgrade, you will support the PM across all aspects of project work and act as the link between project work and business as usual, providing support and training for Technical & Production departments upon project completion. This is an exciting role contributing to a large scale, transformative project for the RBO that will see our rig used in new ways and align with our commitment to a more sustainable future productions. Our ideal candidate will be an experienced lighting professional who is looking for a new challenge and is interested in developing their project management skills. They will be an open and confident communicator who can effectively manage 3rd party contractors and liaise with internal clients across the lighting department as well as the broader Technical and Production teams. They will be able to evidence: Experience in the use, installation, and design of entertainment lighting systems and temporary/permanent electrical systems. Experience with ETC Eos family consoles, peripherals, and lighting networking systems. Experience with programming and understanding of ETC Paradigm software Experience with entertainment networking systems software such as ETC Concert and Luminex Araneo Good understanding of CDM regulations and experience in contractor management. Please note, this role will be required on site for overnight maintenance and installation works. There is also a summer maintenance period where holiday is embargoed throughout July and August.
