Job Role
Mechanical Engineer (Overhaul Technician) reporting to Area Supervisor
On a daily basis the position involves close, regular contact with the Area
Supervisor who will direct you. Operations staff may contact you for advice and guidance on training during normal working hours and outside these hours in line with the on-call ROTA
You will work closely with Operations staff supporting them during servicing and guiding them or helping them to deal with breakdowns and where possible, passing on skills in order that they can take on more routine maintenance, freeing your time for technical work.
You will also work with other members of the Engineering team; the operational team and the projects team in order to achieve your aims as set out below.
Department objectives:
To maximise electrical production and reduce operational costs by taking responsibility (where this is economically beneficial) for the operation and maintenance of as much plant and equipment as possible. Key to this will be our ability to operate and maintain our own generating sets and gas processing plant.
To ensure the operation and maintenance of all operational generator sets, plant, heat transfer equipment and gas systems to achieve maximum safe electrical output
The aim of the Company is to develop a successful, sustainable and profitable business based on gas utilisation and/or generator supply.
The company is looking for clean, safe and well-run sites, which meet the performance targets and provide full written records.
Main responsibilities:
Day to day operations and maintenance including but not limited to; fault diagnosis, location and rectification.
Lead, supervise and undertake the overhaul of reciprocating generator set
Planned maintenance and breakdown response for the generator sets with minimum outages.
A commitment to continuous enhancement of skills and knowledge, and that of the technicians working with you.
Seek guidance and advice from the Engineering and Management team in anything you are unsure of.
Avoiding unnecessary expenditure by using skills and tools available from within the company.
Ensuring a stock of basic spare parts as detailed by the Area Supervisor is replenished and always to hand should there be a breakdown or unscheduled overhaul required.

Key tasks:
Utilisation and compliance of the company’s operations and maintenance procedures, manuals, record keeping and stock control systems.
Execution of all generator maintenance and the use of Operations staff to undertake minor/major maintenance of generators as required.
Maintenance and repair of mechanical , heat and electrical plant, including pumps and motors at all facilities.
Maintenance and inspection of LV electrical equipment (subject to training and competency).
Operation of HV switchgear (subject to training and competency).
Commissioning of new build including all associated equipment.
Incorporation of new sites into Operations.
Work on and monitoring of the gasfield to maintain the fuel source for the generators.
Conduct emissions monitoring of generating sets.
Training, support and supervision of Operations Technicians to undertake minor maintenance and simple fault finding.
Provide 24-hour emergency call out cover to respond to generator set failures when necessary.
Ordering and cost control of spares and control of stock.
Showing the company in a good light by maintaining clean, well-run sites.
Contractor supervision.
Implementation of HSQE systems.
Commitment to training to enhance knowledge and skills with regard environmental protection and materials.
Compliance and implementation of company environmental protection procedures with a proactive approach to maintaining, monitoring, reporting and auditing, and updating company systems.
Deal directly with spillages using pollution prevention equipment.
Compilation and completion of outstanding works raised by site audits.
Ensure company vehicles in your care are maintained to manufacturer’s specification and in keeping with policy.
Deal directly with environmental spillages using pollution prevention equipment and materials.
Any reasonable task required by the management in the exercising of its goals.
Requirements:
Knowledge/ Experience Extensive knowledge and experience with leading the overhaul of reciprocating generator sets
Knowledge and experience of Electrical, Heat and Mechanical maintenance.
Some electrical skill or relevant experience in the field.
Familiar with electric control systems 12v DC – 415v AC 30ø
Fault location, diagnosis and rectification
Gassafe accreditation (or ability to complete accreditation within probation)
Experience working with Landfill Gas, specialist fuels and/or on generators is advantageous.
Computer literate.
Hold full UK drivers licence.

Successful completion of servicing, commissioning, fault finding, rebuilds and commission of new projects on time and within budget
The amount of time your generators are available to generate
The amount of electricity/heat your sites produce
The maximum stable fuel your gas fields supply
Profitability of your site/Area
