Our coastline is a vital home, resting point, and migratory route for many bird species that are present in internationally important numbers. The conservation of these species is a priority.
The Bird Wise team is looking for an Engagement Officer with great communication skills and good knowledge of our local wildlife (predominantly bird species) to help us educate members of the public about the importance of our coastline and how they can adapt their behaviour to prevent bird disturbance. The ideal candidate should have experience in public engagement and speaking, as well as a good understanding of coastal habitats and processes, particularly those of the East Kent Coast.
To engage with the public, candidates must possess excellent communication, negotiation, and consultation skills. The role also involves finding creative ways to engage with all age groups. Candidates must be comfortable working alone on remote stretches along the East Kent coast and also be effective team players. The ability to work in various environments, including unfavourable weather conditions, is essential.
The Engagement Officer will ideally have a qualification in the environmental sciences or equivalent but must have GCSE English and Maths. They must also be passionate about wildlife conservation.
Due to the nature of this role, this post requires a standard DBS check, This will include checks against the adult and/or children’s barred lists.
