The School
The school is a high performing boys’ grammar school which is enriched by a mixed sixth form. In 2015, after their last Ofsted visit, the school were awarded Outstanding in all areas. They maintain a long tradition of academic excellence and have exceptional expectations for all their students. Above all, they have a reputation for being a very caring and happy community. It places an emphasis on both individual and group achievement and promotes a full range of activities, which includes a very high standard of sport, music, drama and service to the community.
Upon a recent visit to the school, our SER team members felt very welcomed by the school staff they had met and described the atmosphere and environment to be very friendly and supportive.
The expectation is that all students leaving the school will have gained success academically, achieved a well-balanced and confident approach to life and be prepared for the challenges of leadership in the 21st century. Academic achievement is very high with over 10% of leavers receiving offers for Oxford or Cambridge Universities.

The school’s DT department have developed a modern design and technology curriculum and continue reviewing the relevance of the technical knowledge and making skills to equip students for an ever changing technological landscape. Many traditional workshop processes and materials do not feature in their curriculum as they transition into an increasingly digital and technological age. In the school context, the school know many of their students will continue into engineering and design futures. This drives a strong interest in STEM in their subject knowledge. The design and engineering industries have a vital part to play in reducing our global impact and designing a more sustainable society. This is a key area of development in the school curriculum delivery.
