Role Responsibility Reporting directly to the
National Permitting Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Securing new environmental permits for waste operations, water discharge and abstractions, mines waste, part B air emissions, flood risk activities and trade effluent and variations to permits, transfers and surrenders, by compiling, submitting and managing applications to the relevant regulator.
- Identifying changes to regulations and guidance that require new permits, or impact on our existing permits, and advise the business on the actions that are required to become compliant with the legislation.
- Providing expert advice to the business relating to technical issues relating to permit conditions, or associated environmental legislation, including gaining appropriate legal advice and support where necessary, and managing regulator communication and relationships.
- Ensuring compliance with CRH, Tarmac and Industry reporting requirements
The Ideal Candidate To be successful in this role the ideal candidate will have a strong technical background with experience of writing and managing permit applications and liaising with regulators. Ideally, they will have specialist knowledge in either waste or water resources. They will also possess:
Knowledge - Expert knowledge of environmental legislation, guidance, practices and procedure, and their application to the business.
- Extensive experience of writing permit applications for waste operations, water discharges, and abstractions
- Environmental legislation compliance experience, including knowledge of regulatory compliance and legal processes
- Knowledge of environmental management systems
- Experience of working with regulatory authorities
- Experience of managing consultants.
- Knowledge of mineral extraction and associated processing techniques.
Skills - Collaborative approach to working with others
- Experience of liaising with key stakeholders of varying seniority levels both internally and externally (the post holder will engage regularly with our operations and other Land & Natural Resources teams)
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent influencing skills
- Attention to detail
Qualifications - Educated to degree level or equivalent experience, in an environmental or science related
