Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN) is a leader in sourcing, investing in, and managing a wide range of utility-scale renewable energy assets. As we continue to expand our investment base, we are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve.
Since our entry into the renewables market in 2010, OEGEN has achieved remarkable milestones, becoming a leading investor in onshore wind across mainland Europe, the largest investor of solar power in Europe, and recently venturing into offshore wind projects. Currently, we manage a global portfolio of over £6 billion in renewable energy assets.
Our operational portfolio consists of more than three hundred large scale energy-generating companies delivering revenue of over £500 million per year. We take pride in our wind farms, solar power plants, and upcoming projects in energy storage and hydrogen. To support our ambitious growth plans and long-term ownership of energy assets, we are expanding our team.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Asset Manager to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in renewable energy, particularly in solar PV design, investment analysis, and asset management.
This role is crucial for ensuring the optimal performance and profitability of our renewable energy assets through advanced modelling, proactive operation strategies, and effective risk management. Additionally, the Technical Asset Manager will provide essential support to project development analysis to ensure design standardisation and suitable employers requirements are always considered. This will involve working closely with project development and deal teams to integrate best practices and standards into the design and planning stages, thereby optimising project outcomes and ensuring consistency across our portfolio.
International experience will be desired, as the role may involve collaborating with teams and stakeholders from diverse geographic regions, necessitating an understanding of global market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and cultural nuances.
What you'll do- PV System Design and Analysis: Oversee the design of solar PV systems for large scale, C&I, and residential brownfield and greenfield projects. Ensure designs meet industry standards, regulatory compliance, and are optimised for maximum efficiency and return on investment.
- Investment Case Analysis:
- Technical Assumptions and Financial Feasibility: Conduct in-depth analysis of potential investments, focusing on the technical assumptions that underpin financial models. This includes a detailed review of energy yield forecasts, system degradation rates, and maintenance requirements to ensure realistic and achievable projections.
- CAPEX and OPEX Profiling: Develop comprehensive CAPEX and OPEX profiles for each project, ensuring they reflect the true costs of development, deployment, operation, and maintenance of renewable energy assets. Utilise benchmark data, historical performance, and supplier quotes to inform accurate and detailed financial planning.
- Risk-Adjusted Return Analysis: Evaluate the risk-adjusted returns of investment opportunities by analysing technical and financial data. Incorporate scenario analysis to understand the impact of varying technical assumptions and cost profiles on project viability and investor returns.
- Sensitivity Analysis: Perform sensitivity analyses on key technical and financial inputs to identify potential risks and opportunities. This approach ensures that investment decisions are robust, accounting for variations in CAPEX, OPEX, energy production, and market conditions.
- Energy Generation Modelling: Utilise advanced software and methodologies to model the energy generation potential of existing and proposed assets. Continuously improve models based on actual performance data and industry developments.
- Proactive Operation Strategies: Develop and implement proactive operation strategies for large scale, C&I, and residential rooftop assets to optimise performance, extend asset life, and reduce downtime.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate technical, operational, and financial risks associated with renewable energy assets. Implement robust risk management frameworks and practices to protect investments and ensure asset resilience.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to align objectives and ensure the successful delivery of projects.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices. Recommend and implement improvements to processes, technologies, and strategies to enhance asset performance and profitability.
What you'll need- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience in technical asset management, solar PV design, energy analysis, as well as direct experience in the construction, operation, and maintenance of PV assets.
- Advanced data analytics skills essential for optimising the performance and profitability of photovoltaic (PV) solar assets. Proficiency in interpreting complex datasets is required to conduct performance analyses and forecast energy production accurately. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as PVsyst, SolarGIS, or similar software is essential. Experience with SQL databases, Python, or R for data manipulation and analysis is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of financial models and investment analysis in the renewable energy sector.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and project management abilities.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
