The Opportunity We have an opportunity for a Senior Sustainability Consultant to join our creative and friendly sustainability team driving delivery of sustainable outcomes on our projects. The specific need is for a Senior Sustainability Consultant to work across our West region (Bristol, Cardiff, and Southampton/Winchester offices) who can choose to be located in one of these offices. Our Winchester office will be relocating to Southampton in mid-2024.
You will be part of a collaborative team of over 240 Engineers in our West offices. Our team have worked on an array of amazing projects in the UK and internationally including Abu Dhabi International Airport, St. Sidwells Point in Exeter which is the largest Passivhaus certified leisure centre in the UK, One Portwall Square in Bristol which won the 2023 BCO National Award, as well as residential, science and industry, datacentres, healthcare, higher education, sport and arts projects. We deliver cutting edge projects with a strong focus on sustainability which helps facilitate the transition to net zero carbon for both new build and retrofit projects.
The West Sustainability team provides strategic advice to a range of clients on sustainability in the built environment, including developing sustainability strategies for masterplans and individual buildings. This includes the development of bespoke sustainability targets and implementation plans for individual projects, analysis of energy use and carbon impacts and process improvement to support better sustainability outcomes. Increasingly these strategies include development of pathways to Net Zero Carbon both at masterplan and building level, and assessments of the whole life carbon (WLCA) impacts of our projects.
We also undertake a range of environmental and energy assessments using third-party assessment methodologies such as BREEAM, LEED, WELL, Fitwel etc. We provide sustainability and wellness advice to clients on a range of wider issues related to the built environment as well as considering building performance optimisation for client's existing buildings and assets.
The role will see you:
- taking a leading role in delivering sustainability analysis and advice, environmental and carbon assessments across a range of projects
- developing our clients aspirations towards Net Zero Carbon
- having responsibility for the delivery of sustainability on our projects, including bespoke strategies as well as assessment methodologies including BREEAM, LEED, WELL, Fitwel
- reviewing documentation provided by project teams, assessing this against the project's targets and providing feedback
- assisting in preparing bids and proposals for new work and attending site visits to review progress against sustainability targets

Is this role right for you? We're looking for a candidate who:
- Has a chartered status
- BSc qualified in sustainability or other relevant discipline.
- Understanding of the principles of sustainable development, including for example, the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Well-Being of Future Generations (Wales) Act.
- Possess BREEAM Assessor, BREEAM, LEED or WELL Accredited Professional status.
- Experience of carrying out whole life carbon WLCA analysis using OneClick or similar software.
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.
