Thalia Waste Management is seeking a Principal Business Manager for our trade waste business on the Isle of Wight. This newly created role is an exciting opportunity for someone to lead, grow, and develop our trade waste operations on the island. While this position is focussed on driving the growth and success of the business, it is not a direct sales role; sales representatives will handle customer acquisition and commissions. We are looking for a strategic leader who can manage operations, develop the team, and foster strong client partnerships. The role is based on the Isle of Wight, requiring a presence on the island at least three days a week, with Newport as the contractual location. Ferry costs and relocation expenses are not covered, so preference will be given to candidates already based on the island or those willing to relocate. The Role Lead, manage, and grow Thalia's trade waste business on the Isle of Wight, ensuring operational excellence and driving business growth. Develop and implement business strategies that align operational management with long-term growth objectives. Work closely with the sales team to maximise business potential, while focusing on operational efficiency and customer satisfaction—without being directly responsible for sales or commission-based tasks. Build and maintain strong partnerships with clients, ensuring Thalia remains a trusted partner in delivering innovative, environmentally responsible waste solutions. Oversee the management of operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective strategies that support business growth and profitability. Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure that operational and business targets are met or exceeded. Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team and cross-functional departments (HSEQ, Finance, Commercial) to ensure that business objectives are achieved and aligned with corporate goals. Partnerships External Partners: Build and nurture strong relationships with trade waste customers, brokers, and waste processing off-takers. Internal Partners: Work closely with Account Leaders, HSEQ, Finance, and Commercial teams to align operations with business goals. The Person Proven experience in leading business development, preferably in waste management or a related sector (essential). Strong leadership skills with a track record of building, motivating, and developing high-performing teams. Strategic thinker with the ability to identify growth opportunities and implement long-term business plans. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders. Strong financial acumen and experience in managing budgets and operational costs. Committed to environmental stewardship and delivering sustainable business practices. Candidates must be based on the Isle of Wight or willing to relocate.
