Responsible to Enterprise Manager Responsible for Café Assistants, Café Team Lead, Kitchen Lead Who we are Arnos Vale is an uplifting site of culture, history and nature, with 45 acres of green space within the heart of Bristol. We have a gift shop, venues for hire and café, hosting a range of events including weddings, wakes, film nights and theatre. As a charity, all our income is used to protect and enhance this special place. The Cafe is open 7 days a week, 10am 4pm and opens as a bar in the evenings during wedding season. We have a busy footfall of customers that visit us for events, kids activities, tours or funerals. People come to enjoy this fascinating site, dog walking, to enjoy the scenery or visit loved ones. The Role As Café and Hospitality Manager youll align the café with our values; Community, Conservation, Compassion and Collaboration. Youll lead the development of the Café, taking the team with you to define a unique offer that fits both our venue and customer base. This is a busy role, so youll have a proactive, positive approach. Youll use your knowledge in commercial development to grow our food and beverage offer, identifying key suppliers and products for maximum profitability. Youll lead in systemizing operations for day-to-day delivery with a high level of food safety management. Youll lead the Café Team, creating a positive and professional environment to elevate the quality of products and service. Youll be responsible for managing the café and bar at our events, occasionally covering team absence if required, so some flexibility is required. Main Duties & Responsibilities Café and people management Lead and oversee the daily operational running systems and workflow of the café both front of house and kitchen. Line manage team, conduct regular one to ones, appraisal and performance reviews. Lead, support and train the café team- ensuring high quality customer service, and best practice in food standards and health and safety. Deliver an efficient and quality menu- leading on kitchen practice, service, delivery. Create a welcoming environment for our customers, encouraging customer feedback, dealing with complaints in a positive manner. Ensure best food safety methods and practices are followed, systems are legally compliant, organised, and routinely documented/ up to date. Complete and review daily and weekly task checklists, cleaning and temperature checks and maintain precise records, r eporting equipment or facility issues. Stock control, ordering, deliveries, rotation, monthly stock take. Deliver a bar/ kiosk bar for events, planning in staffing, stock and prep. Cafe planning and menu development Lead on the development of the food menu, catering and bar offers in line with our sustainability policy, vision, brand and values. Support the Enterprise Manger to develop café business plan, to deliver strategic objectives aiming to increase profitability, refine resource and increase trade. Support the Enterprise Manager to report, monitor and evaluate key performance Indicators (KPIs) and financial forecasts for the café. Contribute to quarterly board reports for the trustees. Café operations and administration Lead on maintaining cafe health and safety policies, procedures and risk assessments. Manage back office Goodtill/ Sum-up, organising product inventory, pricing, till. Lead on developing supplier relationships, negotiating best product pricing. Manage ordering and invoicing, maintaining organised administrative systems. Manage monthly café Rota, effectively planning resource according to budget, whilst monitoring cost of sales. Lead on communications to the café team on Arnos Vales, operational updates, daily information, activities, funerals and events. Lead on staff inductions and training, including; barrister, food prep, alcohol awareness, food safety and allergens. Lead on monitoring recruitment needs, support Enterprise Manager on recruitment. Participate Arnos Vale meetings, maintaining an organised approach to diary planning. Lead on operational planning, liaising with Wedding and Events Manager to delivery bar and catering for our events and weddings. Support the Enterprise Manager to ensure café related activities remain compliant with our premises license. Work pattern Youll work on a rotating shift pattern which will include a rotation of weekend work. This is open for discussion following a job offer, and is variable around the operational needs. Likely 2-3 weekends a month.
