Job Description PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: As part of our on-going growth strategy, this role will work across the team's impressive roster of major infrastructure, energy and utilities, transport, health, local authorise and central government clients. THE TEAM: As one of most established multi-disciplinary teams of any law firm, we give clients the confidence they need to succeed. The team advise funds, developers, asset managers, operators, financial institutions, energy and utility companies and central and local government and NHS Trusts on innovative, complex projects, which are frequently in the headlines. Our client base is exceptionally wide ranging, and we are frequently instrumental in the commercial structuring of complex and unique ideas. Our first-class team provides innovative, timely and commercial advice from inception all the way through the lifetime of our clients' projects in markets as diverse as waste, large scale outsourcing, renewable energy, transport and healthcare, in the UK and all over the world. We act for a range of developers, sponsors, and procuring authorities, and we have advised funders, as well as public and private sector clients, on some of the most challenging assignments in the market in recent years, including several pathfinder projects such as Gas to the West, a pipeline bringing gas from Northern Ireland to the Irish Republic, and the Femern tunnel linking Denmark and Germany. As this shows, we have a fantastic variety of work. It's not just big-ticket, high-pressure transactions though – we also do a whole range of smaller matters, providing a great arena for mid-level associates to gain experience in a supportive environment. There is an opportunity to specialise, or gain experience in, many different areas. The team in Scotland has grown rapidly over the last 12 months and this role will be working closely with 6 partners, the wider Scottish associate team and the wider IPE team located across our UK and international offices. Current and recent matters include advising: A number of the largest energy suppliers in Great Britain ( SSE, Ovo, Octopus , Engie ) Hitachi Rail on its bid to supply a new fleet of trains for the Tyne and Wear Metro Bluefield Solar on a number of acquisitions of solar projects National Grid on various matters including interconnectors, gas to grid projects and data centres Red Rock Power on its acquisition of the 50MW Afton wind farm The Department for Transport on the high profile West Coast Partnership franchise competition and Covid-19 emergency measures arrangements Arrival – one of the most high profile new entrants to the electric vehicle market on supply of robotics and the construction of their micro-factory in South Carolina Over 200 renewable energy projects in the last decade (wind, solar, biomass, Anaerobic digestion) for clients such as SSE, Peel, John Laing, Network Rail bp on energy and electric vehicle mandates in the UK and overseas renewables and hydrogen projects Several water companies on renewables and major infrastructure projects including Yorkshire Water, United Utilities and Southern Water on their multi-billion Havant Thicket project Corporate PPAs for Network Rail, Britvic, Macquarie and several others Several solar, battery and wind acquisitions and disposals for clients including Portuguese renewables fund, Greenvolt Power, Equans, and Octopus Energy WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE ROLE: With support from a partner, you will take responsibility for drafting and negotiating finance documents, joint-venture documents, corporate documents and complex commercial contracts concerning energy and infrastructure projects. Advise on commercial contracts relating to energy, infrastructure, transport and many types of public/private sector transactions – a great grounding for junior-level lawyers on these hugely relevant and dynamic topics. Provide strategic commercial and procurement advice at all stages of procurement, and under supervision, will deliver public sector infrastructure. Advising clients on their investments and operations across UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa Strongly encouraged to take responsibility for business development both engaging directly with client contacts at networking events and by providing training. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Have at least 1years PQE experience within Infrastructure, Projects & Energy or from a Commercial Contracts background. Strong enthusiasm for growing and developing your knowledge and experience within the IPE remit, and high levels of commercial acumen and awareness. Proven experience of supporting complex transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines as needed. Drafting capability to create and manage clear and legally effective documents, which reflect the client's instructions. Demonstrate enthusiasm for the development of your legal skill set and continuous learning. Be inquisitive and want to understand our clients, their drivers and what matters to them, so that your advice has quality, imagination, and impact.
