Job summaryTo establish the baseline in energy usage for the estate and be responsible for the reduction in utility costs per annum in the Trusts consumption of Electricity, Gas & Water.
The post-holder will be the key contact and person responsible for managing the Boiler House and Service Contract in relation to the CHP.
Identify cost saving strategy for the Trust to include the purchasing of utilities, renewable energy and metering deployment.
To have full responsibility for championing energy reduction programmes across the Trust including educating stakeholders in best practice building management and innovation. Be responsible for compiling and submitting data to ensure compliance and to avoid any potential fines.
To work collaboratively with the wider Estates & Facilities team to ensure there is energy resilience across all sites and to propose and manage energy improvement CAPEX projects that contribute to the cost saving strategy.
The role scope is limited to St. Georges Hospital site where ST Georges (SGH), St. George's University of London (SGUL), The Pelican Hotel, and Nursery are the primary energy consumers are are all independent organisations, occupying a common site.
Main duties of the jobThe posts principle function is to lead on tasks and responsibilities related to Energy and Sustainability management.
Trust plans will be overseen by a Sustainability Development committee (SDC) and is focused on embedding action across the Trust. Working closely with the Estates Engineers, Waste managers, Transport managers and procurement managers plus a range of colleagues across the Trust the plan will:
Raise the profile of Energy, Sustainability and Carbon management within SGH
Articulate what energy and sustainability means for SGH core service delivery business
Set out sustainability principles that SGH should consider in developing policy
Establish and develop governance structures that embed sustainability considerations into the Trust at all levels
Form a coherent approach to costing the benefits of sustainability investments (including value for money)
Create a sustainability business case for SGH
Identify the drawbacks of not fully embracing sustainability for SGH
Articulate clearly how our actions will contribute to overarching goals of SGH
Develop SMART (specific, measurable, agreed, realistic and time based) targets to meet the needs of SGH
The post holder will co-ordinate the development of an sustainable development management plan (SDMP), act as a lead and co-ordinate the deployment of agreed actions on behalf of the Sustainability Development Committee (SDC) and Energy Saving Committees.

Complete monthly plant room checks on energy efficiency, audit and report findings.
Undertaking research in all aspects of the SMP including legislative and regulatory compliance, asset management, energy management, waste management, travel, procurement, office environment, funding opportunities and best practice both within and beyond the organisation. Follow up actions on a range of topics, being a first point of contact for enquiries, providing a constructive challenge function for the Trust.
Working on aspects of the strategy, particularly development of metrics, for the next phase of St Georges Hospital sustainability management plan.
Producing a range of material for internal and external use, plus supporting the development of other communications and training material.
Produce Climate change adaptation policy. Produce energy management policy.
Renew export and import contract periodically with Crown Commercial Service.
Arranging and delivering internal workshops and events with service areas on sustainability for SGH.
Nurturing partnerships with external stakeholders and partners to ensure delivery of the agenda.

Implement a Trust wide environmental management strategy consistent with ISO14000.

Set up a series of KPIs/metrics to inform the Intelligent Board Reports. Set up KPIs/metrics, reporting and monitoring which informs corporate and strategic planning along with further metrics which encourage all directorates clinical and non clinical to use carbon currency in performance measures to reduce carbon emissions and increase service effectiveness.
Facilitate a close working relationship with the NHS Sustainable Development Unit and other external agencies such as the Carbon Trust etc, to update and inform the SDC and the SDMP of recommendations/advice, develop and implement action plans accordingly.
