About the Opportunity This role sits within a significant programme partnership, delivering a range of major projects and supporting services within a 20-year framework valued at ~£7bn. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will work with the Programme and Project Partners (PPP) team for Sellafield, contributing to one of the UK's most complex industrial projects. This unique position offers the chance to drive change and innovation in engineering, safety, and delivery solutions for the Sludge Handling and Export Plant (SH&EP), a facility currently in the early stages of development. The SH&EP facility will treat hazardous sludge for safe long-term storage and disposal, incorporating modularised construction and sustainable design practices. Applicants do not need to have previous Nuclear project experience, just experience in other building services sectors. Key Responsibilities Produce safe, fit-for-purpose design deliverables that meet specified requirements, ensuring validation, verification, and design intent alignment. Collaborate with other Senior Mechanical & Electrical Engineers and a multidisciplinary design team to deliver integrated solutions. Provide accurate estimates and project timelines, contributing to efficient project planning. Liaise with clients and cross-discipline teams, attending both internal and external meetings to align project objectives. Develop briefs, specifications, and review/check design drawings for accuracy. Produce technical reports and detailed calculations to support design decisions. Lead input on Designer Risk Assessments (DRAs) and Outline Installation Method Statements (OIMS). Ensure compliance with UK regulations (e.g., LOLER, Machinery Directive, CDM) and relevant industry standards (BS 8888). Qualifications and Experience Minimum qualification to HNC standard in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience. Proficient in Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Inventor, RECAP) and other 3D systems. Demonstrable experience working within regulated standards and quality-assured systems. Strong technical knowledge of UK regulations and mechanical engineering principles, including experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles.
