The Managing Director, Head of Strategy Execution for Technology & Operations, will contribute to CPPIB's strategic objectives by improving strategy execution capabilities and leading the implementation of strategic initiatives and programs. The Managing Director will be responsible for leading the Technology & Operations Strategy Execution Function, collaborating closely with the Senior Managing Director, Chief Operations Officer, and the Technology & Operations leadership team on the execution of initiatives, while partnering with the program management team on the delivery of initiatives/programs. This role is instrumental in ensuring the successful execution of strategic initiatives, actively problem-solving, and proactively resolving challenges along the way. This role aims to establish enduring strategy execution capabilities within our organization, contributing to its long-term success and growth. Accountabilities Lead the onboarding and initial set-up of strategic initiatives: Ensure initiatives are equipped with the necessary resources, tools, and frameworks to kickstart their journey towards successful execution. Provide ongoing, comprehensive support to the Technology & Operations leadership team throughout the entire lifecycle of their strategic initiatives: This spans multiple dimensions, including workplan development, OKR definition, resource allocation, and proactive problem-solving. Collaborate closely with the Technology & Operations leadership team to assess and measure/quantify the impact and value being delivered by initiatives: Provide input as required into the structuring and reporting on initiative status, outcomes, and alignment with strategic goals, to provide transparency to Fund leadership and ensure alignment through meetings such as Steering Committees and Quarterly SMT Days. Maintain a consistent review of SEF and initiative operations, actively identifying opportunities for continuous improvement: Implement improvements within the function to benefit both current and future initiatives. Proactively ensure that the SEF is agile, adaptable, and continuously improving in its strategy execution capabilities. Identify and seize opportunities to build and strengthen strategy execution capabilities within the function and the overall Fund: Involves items such as assessing training needs for team members, developing structures and processes to enhance strategy execution, implementing proven concepts to enhance capabilities (e.g., user-based design), and creating mechanisms to institutionalize key components of strategy execution. Lead small, focused teams responsible for the development and execution of strategic initiatives. Education: Advanced degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Experience: 10+ years progressive experience in strategy execution, enterprise-wide change and/or program management. Experience in leading large-scale transformation initiatives and change management programs. Previous experience in management consulting, investment banking, private equity, or other financial service roles is helpful, but not required. Strong understanding of strategy development and execution within a complex financial services environment, with a focus on long-term growth and sustainability. Advanced knowledge of strategic portfolio management and process improvement methodologies. Ability to distill complex concepts into actionable strategies and execute them within a dynamic environment. Strategic problem solving (e.g., overcoming barriers, enabling continued forward momentum) and complex stakeholder management will be required across a wide variety of initiatives, ranging from Talent to Technology Implementations. Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels, particularly Group Heads and Senior Managing Directors. Significant stakeholder management experience and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across diverse teams and functions. Demonstrated experience working closely with technology teams and external partners in a complex environment, effectively managing competing priorities and risk factors. Ability to understand, empathize, and bridge multiple perspectives across departmental needs, e.g., Senior Leadership and technical specialists, and engage with all parts of the Fund.
