When people think about jobs in the green economy or green jobs, they typically focus on either jobs in the solar panel industry or old-school farmers. Or, at the very least, someone out in the field — literally and figuratively — bearing the elements while working a noble job that helps to save the environment while earning them a decent living.
But, actually, there are many different paths that green jobs can take. Not only has technology changed the way even traditional jobs in the green economy look, but there are many green jobs that don’t involve physically venturing into the sunlight at all.

Battery Engineer
A career as a battery engineer combines skills and interest in renewable energy with programming, science, and technology.
Sounds like a pretty cool sci-fi type of deal, doesn’t it?
Battery engineers can be responsible for things like designing and creating batteries, which help reduce reliance on fossil fuels or other harmful types of energy. And right now, innovative startups like Ionworks Technologies Inc. are looking to hire people with this kind of knowledge and/or expertise.
For instance, Ionworks Technologies is hiring a Principal Application Engineer who would be responsible for performing battery simulations and seeing battery development through to the final stages. This includes the application of computer science, but also diverse skills like consultancy and product development.
Not only can you do this kind of job from home, but salaries can fetch you a pretty $120,000 USD and stock options too!

Heat Pump Specialists
In this technologically-advanced age, new ways are being developed to heat and cool homes without relying on products that harm the environment. And the specialized workers who are employed in this field are in high demand.
Some can even work from home, or with the flexibility to work remotely and only have to leave the couch if they are physically dispatched to a customer’s home. Low Carbon Recruitment Ltd. is specifically searching for the right Heating Engineers who are knowledgeable about air source heat pumps to sign on.
These positions offer a starting salary of around £40,000 GBP per year, plus extra compensation for travel costs if they have to go to a client’s house to work on the physical system itself. Plus, they’re willing to train the right candidates as long as they have a relevant background, so there is some wiggle room if you don’t exactly fit the bill.
